Walking in Cappadocia

Day 1: Arrival at Antalya. Transfer to the hotel in Antalya. Brief orientation. Overnight in Antalya..

Day 2: Walking in the old city of Antalya. Drive to the ancient city Perge. Highlights are the Gymnasium, the Bath, the Agora, the Stadium and the Hellenistic Gate. We continue our visit with Aspendos Theater, one of the best-preserved and designed theaters of the Roman era with its incredible acoustic. Walk to Acropolis and Aqueducts of Aspendos. Overnight in Antalya.

Day 3: Drive to Konya, ancient Uconium. On the way stop on the Taurus Mountains, walking through a pine forest. Arriving at Konya, the center of the Whirling Dervishes and visit Mevlana Museum, the great mystic philosopher,who is also known as “Rumi”. Overnight in Konya.

Day 4: Drive to Cappadocia. On the way vist to Sultanhani Caravanserai. First meeting with the lunar landscape of Cappadocia: Visit to the Uchisar Rock-Castle to have a panoramic view of the valleys of Cappadocia. Walking through the Pigeon Valley. Overnight in Urgup.

Day 5: Today you have a full day excursion into the magical moonscape of Cappadocia’s rocky hills and valleys. We will walk in Goreme National Park, an open-air museum with its Byzantine churches carved into cliffs with colorful frescoes dating back to 7th century. Then we will visit Pasabagi, the three-capped chimney in the middle of valley, which was the retreat to the monk Simeon. Visit of Develi Valley. Walking in Kizilcukur Valley to Cavusin. Overnight in Urgup.

Day 6: Walking in Soganli Valley, which was continuously inhabited since the earliest days of the Christian era, has churches that dates back from the 9th to 13th centuries. Soganli Valley is free from the intensity of large tourist groups, so we will be able to feel the harmony between man and nature here. Continue to Ihlara Valley. Ihlara is a 14 km-long fascinating canyon, formed by the Melendiz. In this valley Byzantine rock chapels cut into the canyon walls and decorated with wonderful frescoes can be seen. Of these chapels the Agacalti (Daniel) Church, the Yilanli (Apocalypse) Church, the Sumbullu (Hyacinth) Church, the Purenliseki Church, and St. Georges Church are the most interesting examples. Overnight in Urgup.

Day 7: Today our last stop will be Derinkuyu. This is an underground city carved into soft rocks resembling a huge labyrinth of tunnels, rooms, kitchens, wine cellars and passageways. A huge chimney ventilates this 8-levelled dwelling, which was used by early Christians to hide from Roman persecutors. We will have a picnic lunch on the way. Drive to Antalya. Overnight in Antalya.

Day 8: Transfer to the airport. Departure.
